We collect almost nothing
This site is a set of plain HTML pages. It has no accounts, no login, no comment box and no shopping basket.
Cookies
We set no cookies of our own, and nothing we run stores or reads information on your device to identify you. That is why you are not being asked to click a consent banner.
One exception you control: the site is dark unless you press the sun button in the header. If you switch, your browser remembers that one choice (the word "light" or "dark", in its local storage) so the next page opens the way you asked. It is never sent to us or anyone else, it does not identify you, and clearing your browser's site data removes it.
Analytics — what we added, and what it does
From 27 August 2026 this site loads Cloudflare Web Analytics, a small script served from static.cloudflareinsights.com. We added it so we can see which pages people actually find useful. You should know it is there.
What it does collect, in aggregate:
- Which page was viewed, and the page that referred you to it
- Country, browser and operating system
- Page performance measurements — how quickly the page loaded for you
What it does not do:
- It sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device.
- It does not fingerprint you or build a profile of you.
- It does not follow you across other websites.
- We cannot identify an individual reader from it, and we would not want to.
Cloudflare publishes its own description of how the product works at cloudflare.com/web-analytics. If your browser blocks it, the site works exactly the same — nothing on this site depends on it.
What the server sees
Our host records standard web request logs — the page asked for, a timestamp, a rough location and your browser type — to keep the site up and to block abuse. We do not use those logs to build a profile of you and we do not sell them.
Tools that work out answers on your device
The London clock and "right now" verdicts (the home page and /now/), thenearest-place finder and the share button all run inside your browser. If you type a postcode into the finder, it is matched against a table of London area centres that is built into the page. If you press "Use my location", your browser asks for permission and hands the position to the page. In both cases nothing about where you are is sent to us or anyone else, and nothing is stored. The share button only passes the page address to the sharing app or copies it, when you press it.
Fonts
Page headings load a typeface from Google Fonts, so your browser makes a request to Google to fetch the font file.
Links out
We link to Transport for London, the NHS and other operators. Once you follow a link you are on their site, under their privacy policy, not ours.
If you email us
The corrections address forwards to a personal mailbox. Cloudflare Email Routing carries the message; there is no mailbox on this domain. If you write to us we then hold what you sent — your address, your name if you give one, and the message — for as long as it takes to act on it. It goes on no list, it is passed to nobody, and the only mail you get back is a reply from a person. Ask us to delete your message and we will.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you may ask what personal data we hold about you. The honest answer is that unless you have emailed us, we hold no records that identify you personally — and if you have, the only record is that email.
